The "handheld touchscreen device" was not invented by Apple.
BTW, how is a small screen useful if you can't scroll and pan?

As I mentioned in another note, I used to use a Palm III. It had scrolling as
well and it came out in 1998. Later on, I moved to a Nokia N800, again with
scrolling. I bought that back in 2007, IIRC.

Their innovation is the source of much confusion and
woe at work whenever anyone switches between a PC
or an older mac and a modern mac (bass ackwards
scroll bars that disappear)
It's also the reason we had to implement special
usability aids on our website when viewed on a recent
mac, to show our customers how to scroll below the
fold (yes, seriously)
