Worst CEO Ever

Lay off Elop. He's just doing what Microsoft wants him to do.

Worst CEO Ever
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, July 15 2012 @ 05:38 AM EDT
The article's length is surpassed by its content, which so eloquently makes the
case that both the CEO (Elop) and the board has to be criminally liable for
disregarding their duty towards their own company and its shareholders for the
glaringly obvious benefit of a third party (Microsoft).

On some level, Elop IS executing and performing. As an injected virus killing
its host. So he may be rewarded quietly for his services.
Whether he esapes jail and crippling fines is for others to decide.

But I wonder how mr. Elop himself feels in those quiet moments of reflexion that
almost all people experience.
Is he really comfortable about being forever held up as the worst CEO ever?

The ultimate bad karma would be to make a verb of his name: To Elop a company,
meaning to take a successful company and totally destroy it from within.

(The history lesson on Suomussalmi was excellent, BTW)

Worst CEO Ever - Wrong Microsoft Strategy
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, July 15 2012 @ 11:39 AM EDT
While reading the article, it finally dawned to my why Nokia might have wanted
an ex-Microsoft manager in the first place.
The article mentions how Nokia was twice as big as it's closest compatitior en
large enough to rush new products quickly to marked. So it is somewhat similar
to Microsofts Desktop monopoly, and it's strategies might have worked on the
smartphone too.
Following the Microsft strategy, Elop should have used FUD and lawsuits to
hassle direct competors, and could have waited till small startups came up with
new ideas that could be bought or stolen for new products.

In this context, the Microsoft deal should have been reversed: Nokia would have
had paid Microsoft not to release Windows Mobile to Samsung untill they had one
(a year away) so removing one competitior while they rolled out Megoo.

Never got a promotion
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, July 15 2012 @ 01:50 PM EDT
"I am wondering, given Nokia's and Microsoft's recent mistakes, is
Microsoft promoting people that are more convincing than correct?"

According to Wikipedia, he worked for Microsoft for less than three years and
there was no indication that he got a promotion while there. It may be that
they hired someone who was more convincing than correct, though.
