I don't know but I have always had the feeling that Ubuntu makes things
purposely incompatible with Debian, to make it difficult to move pieces back
into Debian.

I'm not so sure whether this is an attempt to differentiate itself from Debian
on whose shoulders it stands or a long term desire to disrupt Debian to the
point that Ubuntu takes over Debian relevancy and absorbs their following
itself.

Then again maybe there is no malice involved and ......

Collaboration in Linux

Canonical is still fulfilling its part of the Linux ecosystem. Remember the old
adage?

Red Hat does the kernel,
Suse does the applications,
Debian does the packaging
and Ubuntu takes the credit.
