I am not a fan of Facebook and I have never had an account. I think much of the
criticism of it (and Eben Moglen does that criticism as well as anyone) is well
deserved. But in this case there *might* be a case to be made for this
feature.
I say "might" since, never having been on a Facebook I can't be
totally sure what Facebook Groups are. But if they tend to be relatively small,
self-selected (and limited) groups of people with a common interest, this kind
of tracking, if it is done via normal log-in procedures rather than snooping of
non-logged in viewers and is limited to the members of the group might be useful
and desirable. People could avoid such things simply by not being a member of
such Groups. Of course, if my guess at what Facebook Groups is is way off, then
nothing I just said applies.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
