Is any one else having problems with Raspberry Pi?
I signed up but
when I went back later my password wouldn't work so I had to reset it. It worked
for a while but when I tried a couple of days ago it didn't work again, also
Opera would not automatically login. After second try I was marked as having
tried too many times and would have to use the captcha to get in. Gave up.
Tried again yesterday and immediately went to tried too often. So tried to
reset password but my username and email not on system!! Seems like I will
have to re-register but I expect it will then get thrown out as duplicate.
Obviously I cannot put a message on their forum. Maybe someone from the
organisation might see this.
Regarding supply of Raspberry Pi. I missed
the first batch and registered an interest in mid March with local Element 14.
I seem to recall that at that time they were not taking orders. In May I
received an email from them once decoded (the email TEXT consisted only of
GRAPHICS!!!!) that all orders and expressions of interest would be supplied by
end of June. Mid June another (ALL GRAPHICS) email arrived requesting I
order. This I did along with a few other parts (to get into free delivery order
range - OK I'm a cheapskate). The other parts were promptly delivered and the
Raspberry Pi was on back order for 3 months!!! They were also taking further
orders. When I checked a couple of days back the delivery time was gone,
as was taking further orders. I queried this with Element 14 and was advised
that I could order one now and get it delivered in 4-5 weeks i.e. early/mid
August. A further email to them elicited the response that the 4-5 weeks
would be from the current date ordered. An existing order would be early August
which is also 4 weeks at least!!! Further it was stated that only firm
orders placed before end of April would be supplied by end June.
I
could under local consumer law cancel and claim all my expenses, two SD cards,
HDMI to DVI-D cable, powered USB hub, USB to micro-USB cable but the effort
would probably not be worth it. What makes it even worse is that another
brand of small linux computer was offered on special by a different dealer at
the time I ordered. It needed none of the extras, working with Vga and had a
micro SD card supplied with the OS on it and available immediately. I was
tempted but it was twice the price of Raspberry Pi. Two is better than one or is
it?
I found yesterday that Element 14 are offering a formatted and pre
loaded with OS SD card but at a price that is only just below the Raspberry Pi
itself!!! I am getting cynical as to whether they have been swamped beyond
expectations or is it the biggest SCAM going.
Has anyone actually got a
Raspberry Pi? /Rant [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
