You mean "for purely personal reasons" would imply
"because she received a threat to her person"?
People do quit stressful jobs for perfectly valid
personal reasons like health problems, family reasons,
or an insight that they are doing things they don't
really enjoy or care for any longer.
It's sad to see a strong fighter for a good
cause go, but there will be others. Good people
are not a minority, and nowadays they don't
stay silent. She will be missed, but hopefully
others will pick up where she left.
There is a strong tendency for the "bad guys" to be
just that: a few bad people, usually male, that
create problems for a lot of good people.
The good people will always have an advantage here:
take out one good person and others will step up to
fill her shoes, but take out the bad guys and they
won't grow back nearly as easily.
