I can confirm from personal experience that some applications
actually run better under WINE and Linux.
At a prior place of employment, there was this horribly
complicated spreadsheet which was a form used as part
of employee evaluation process. This form experienced various
troubles when being used on a windows box. The exact same
form worked much better with the exact same spreadsheet software
when being run on the exact same hardware, with the only difference
being use of WINE and Linux, as opposed to Windows.
My best guess is that this was because of the ineffective handling
of virtual memory on Windows as compared to under Linux.
Too bad that a number of developer tools were only available
on Windows, because I would have much rather used Linux all the time.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
