Thats where the "if guns are illegal then only criminals will have
guns" appears.

So what happens when you are faced with a criminal in a confined space?

The criminal has the gun... and you can't defend yourself.

That's not actually true; private ownership of hand guns is still legal - just
heavily controlled.

My colleague has just sold all his because he's retiring to Thailand. Lucky
goit.

I hope you never plan to visit Switzerland, then!

You know, the country with a fully automatic assault rifle in every adult male's
domicile?

And for the record, I'm a Scot who's very much in favor of the swiss system, as
long as we also get the bit where we don't engage in any wars on foreign soil
(which would mean pulling out of a few, but that would be a good thing). That's
a critical part for universal conscription to work.

So no, we don't all think it's a daft idea for everyone to be armed. I'd invoke
Godwin, but I feel we have enough examples without doing so of dictators
disarming the people. Britain has just been disarmed longer than most.
