Sadly....
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, July 05 2012 @ 02:28 PM EDT

Although it's not new to a lot of us, there are those who are - to give them the benefit of doubt - completely ignorant to what's actually happening.

And I use "ignorant" in the clear definition of the term, not in the slang uses it has:

2.Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular: "ignorant of astronomy".
Even when I've pointed out the details of the deals they seem to want to rationalize the situation and claim Philanthropy really is in play.

Now that I'm armed with some very direct results, I'm curious to see how the next one will respond.

Software vs cash - IRS rules
Authored by: jjs on Friday, July 06 2012 @ 06:22 AM EDT
Wall Street Journal article probably 15 years ago, when MS
touted they had exceeded Ford Foundation and IBM in giving.
Both of those protested the description, because they gave
cash, while MS gave software. MS was touting the retail
value of their software giving, but kept themselves in the
legal on IRS (only the cost of production). Turns out most
companies that give software don't even claim it because the
IRS deduction is so small (cost of producing a CD/DVD, a
book, packaging).

The original article, if available, is almost certainly
behind the WSJ paywall, for anyone who wants to dig into it.

(Note IANAL, I don't play one on TV, etc, consult a practicing attorney, etc,
etc)
