How hard is it *really* to hold a key while booting,
Prepare to tell the person which key it is for their particular computer. F1? F2? F8? Shift-something-or-other? I had a laptop that I had to dig out the manual to find out the answer to that question. On my current computer, the boot screen didn't tell me which key to use until I turned off the "display logo" option.
navigate a menu, and toggle the "I want to have control over what I install, rather than some random corperations who are willing to shell out some money" (Otherwise know as the Secure Boot, UTFI, or Restricted Boot) button?
Also be prepared to tell the person what a BIOS is in the first place. Lots of users have no idea.

Also be prepared to explain the user why it really is not a useful feature to have Secure Boot turned on and why you are not making their computer less secure.

Or, just make it so that they can leave it all alone.

As a business person, I know which one I'd choose.

How many stories have we heard about life long Windows users giving up on trying Linux because it was "too hard to install". That's taken advances over the years. No point in moving backwards.

Why have people become so opposed to education?

One thing I have in mind is once various laptops and
stuff are released, there could be a page just on
what to do with *your* model to easily alter your
situation.

I know it's not ideal, but it worked for Linux users
when it came to lists of what hardware worked with
Linux and what didn't. Remember the Microsoft
only software to get on the internet by phone line?

Now a lot of vendors put right on the package if it
is compatible with Linux. So there must be a lot of
people asking. That is over time a real contribution.
I'll gladly do documentation and make it a little more
enjoyable to read than the usual, whatever it takes.

> How hard is it *really* to hold a key while booting,

Heheh, the hard part is finding which key while it flashes past too fast,
always on a different part of the screen, always a different key, or so
it seems with every piece of hardware that I am forced yet again to
fiddle with before Linux will run properly...

So "people" get tired of frustration and take the easy way out.
