Greed: not the only disease
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, July 04 2012 @ 03:23 PM EDT

There also seems to be a lack of desire to be reasonable. To consider the effect upon oneself if one's own behavior is directed at oneself.

Consider the Laws the **IA's of the world would like entered. The three strikes rule that President Sarkozy was determined to implement even though it was clearly pointed out he would be refused Internet Access under the Law if it was applied to himself.

Sadly - the U.S. does not have a Monopoly on the belief of behavior that seems to indicate "I am above the Law!". Such an inherent - even if not conscious - belief (drive?) seems to govern the pattern of thought of the average person.

Do as I say and not as I do!
Kind of leaves me wondering if that is possibly one of the underlying building blocks - possibly the primary - that ends up creating what we consider Greed.

I wonder what percentage of people that live by applying rules they apply to others against themselves exhibit tendencies of Greed vs the percentage of those that prefer to only apply rules to others. I'd expect the percentage in the first case to be very small while the second case is very large.

If true... then holding individuals - including those that form an entity (whether Government, Corporation, etc) - to the very same rules they wish applied to others may have quite the impact on decreasing greed.

Said individuals would have to be held to the rule before they apply it to others for it to be an effective solution. Such as Sarkozy lossing his access (all access, including from his government offices, friends devices, etc) so he can ponder the effect of the rule properly.
