Some Cynical thoughts.

What were they thinking? "We've done this before, let's do it again"

What? You don't believe that there have been closed-door arrangements like this
since the roman empire? (And probably for a long time before then)

"Europe could now be left behind when it comes to protecting intellectual
property." Good? That will mean that Europe leaps ahead in technology
compared to every country that does ratify ACTA. Less restrictions, more
invention. (Note I didn't say "innovation" there.)

European Commissioner for Trade, Karel De Gucht, has publicly stated that the
Parliament vote means nothing to him and that the democratic voice will not stop
ACTA from being implemented - after which it will be up to the Euro Court to
decide the issue.

Personally I hope they strip this guy of all credentials and ship him out.
Preferably to some 3rd world dictatorship more in tune with his thinking.
