You CAN flash BIOS from Linux :)
Authored by: Anonymous on Tuesday, July 03 2012 @ 08:12 AM EDT

I think that the mobo I am using now just requires you to go into the bios where you can load the new image from usb

However, if I have a secure/restricted boot machine how do I load linux to flash the bios if I can't disable secure boot? The problem is that extra hurdles are being added even to boot a live distro. If there is a pressing need to mount a live cd etc on someone elses machine and you flash there bios there is a large chance that you will be responsible, from that time forward, for every problem they ever experience on that machine.

BIOS yes, UEFI not so simple

And the article you linked to definitely is
not for a newbie. And how often do you flash
the firmware anyway?

I am curious if anyone has found a UEFI firmware
for a PC that does *NOT* require Windows to flash.

Note I am specifically talking about UEFI here,
not old BIOS.
