What bothers me is that if I got to the doctor or hospital, I pay cash and get
charged the full rate. If someone who has insurance gets exactly the same
treatment, the insurance company gets a substantial discount.
I've been told that the way to counter this is to pay only $10 a month on a
hospital bill. After a few months, the hospital will supposedly contact you and
agree to a substantial discount if you pay the balance in full.
A friend of mine with an HSA says that he has a card kind of like a credit card
from the HSA that he uses to pay his doctor visits. According to him, his
doctor will discount the service for immediate payment.
My last two doctor don't give any discounts for immediate cash payment. The
last time I went to the doctor, I paid cash and then received a bill in the mail
a couple of months later for more. I argued with their billing staff for a year
and refused to pay until they finally told me what the additional charge was. I
still think I got charged twice for a useless test that I didn't need in order
to know what was wrong -- a minor viral infection that the doctor couldn't treat
anyway.
The next time I go to a doctor, it will be to some other quack.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
