RIM Explores Microsoft Alliance...
Authored by: symbolset on Friday, June 29 2012 @ 10:16 PM EDT

As I prefer to say it: "We're going mobile. Microsoft isn't coming with us." Apple may have opened this door but it's Google and their Linux-based Android drawing most of us through it. Chrome and Linux-based desktops and laptops may follow, or not - especially if they can be linked to Google Play ecosystem (repository) for apps and content.

But then, it was time for mobile. ARM finally hit the requisite level of performance. And when it's time, somebody usually finds a way.

I don't mean to disparage Apple here in any way. They make great gear, and many people like the comfort of their cathedral. I'm just a bazaar kind of guy, and I think most people are. It seems that they are based on the recent numbers too.

What with MS's stranglehold on Dell and HP ...

I wonder if Apple would licence MacOS to them, on condition they only used it on
name-brand hardware using supported components.

What would MS make of that ...

It would enable Apple to hang on to their quality control, and let HP/Compaq get
back to their Win3.1 quality, which was destroyed when MS seized control of the
"user experience" with Win95 (I found Win31 on Compaq hardware very
reliable, and loved the "tab book" replacement for the then Windows
Explorer or whatever it was).

Cheers,
Wol
