Until Windows supports a non MS owned filesystem OOTB then the FAT32 Patents
will need to be licensed.
It is sad but that is the long game that MS has played.
Even though FAT32 is hardly suited to the size of SDHC (and other format) cards
that are in use today, I don't see a move by the card makers to replace FAT32
with something else.
not that would do much good as until Windows PC/Laptops are no longer used by
the majority of users then FAT32 is the only game in town and it will be a cold
day in hell before MS adds a disk format to its standard Windows build that is
not proprietary.
Yes, you can add ext3/ext4 etc support to Windows but that is not going to meet
the needs of the majority of computer users (ie, those who use Windows and
nothing else, well that do but they don't realise it).
