MS Wins whichever way the OEM go
Authored by: symbolset on Saturday, June 30 2012 @ 02:59 AM EDT

Since Google bought Moto the patent tax is pretty much dead, except for exFAT, which Microsoft convinced just about everybody from cameras to smartphones to implement. So the new Android devices won't have hdsc but cloud instead, because exFAT licensing is required to manage customer expectations if you have that media.

It won't always be so, but that's where we're at.

The MS patent tax may perhaps not be enough to compensate the MS bloat tax. Also
don't forget that other hardware makers may have patents of their own and can
counter-tax. We will see how these things play out.
