The other IMPORTANT thing about universal health care (which is imperfect, like
most things, but it works reasonably well) is we don't have many killer diseases
floating around waiting to strike.
All the fuss over MMR aside, with free universal vaccination or treatment for
most infectious killers, they've been pretty much wiped out. Unfortunately, some
of them like TB are making a comeback :-( I just hope that one doesn't come
anywhere near me - it's wiped out far too many members of my family going back
just a few generations :-(
And free treatment means people are returned to the workforce, not left as
cripples to depend on charity. Not that there's enough work for people to do any
more :-(
Cheers,

Massachusetts has had a system pretty much identical
to this new health care, and it is working fine. Costs
have gone down, and people like it a lot.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
