clues abound, so what's the problem?
Authored by: mcinsand on Monday, June 25 2012 @ 10:34 AM EDT
Despite being widely regarded as a hack, I still like Jack Chalker's early
novels. One message from 'Midnight at the Well of Souls' that sticks with me is
the importance of knowing the difference between ignorance and stupidity.
Ignorance is just a lack of exposure to the facts and stupidity is the inability
to understand them.

An awful lot of facts (clues) have come out very publicly this past year,
especially with respect to these lawsuits.

'Cluelessness' might be possible from ignorance or stupidity. Given how much
informtion is out there clearly, I think I know which category I would assign to
Ellison. I'm thankful that I own no Oracle stock.

Island Lair?

Maybe his intention is to set up a courthouse on the island and have all the
cases heard there? Oracle vs Rest of The World

Next thing you know Oracle will claim they own the island of Java (in which case
he'd have a nearby volcano handy ;) )

The "Hawaiian Hot Spot"
Authored by: BitOBear on Monday, June 25 2012 @ 10:56 PM EDT
Actually all the Hawaiian islands were formed by the same volcanic hot spot.
Each island forms and is then pulled off the hot spot by plate tectonics where
they slowly erode.

So that's why the islands are like a trail of (basalt) bubbles or smoke. There
is one active on-land volcano left, but even as we speak there is a new island
forming over the hot spot. Its a giant sea-mount that hasn't breached the waves
yet.

Like Java, Ellison's Island is volcanically dead and shrinking under the forces
of erosion. We just may not live long enough to notice much of a change.
