Not that it's Google's fault, but unless you root your phone and install a
custom ROM (which to give android credit you can do fairly easily, unlike
certain competitors) the situation with android devices and updates is pretty
bad too. Flagship devices usually get updated. Eventually. Most of the time.
Anything else, good luck.

Granted this is almost always carriers trying to appear to be more than pipes by
relevant by randomly blocking stuff in the name of "testing" (yet
they're happy to sell you a SIM and connect any random phone) and device makers
wanting to use a new version of android as selling point on new hardware, but
it's still the situation as is.
