Who/what orchestrated SOPA in the first place? With secret
negotiations... 'Under cover' of protecting what, was that
again?
Accusing your 'opponent' of doing that which you do yourself
is -i'm, told- a standard 'trick' of certain political
organizations, but 'it' only works if anyone believes you.
That 'corporate interests' attempt to directly influence
elected representatives is a well-established thing by now;
It's called lobbying. I do not know if the mechanism of
influencing those same representatives to ignore public
outcry against the resulting proposed legislation has a
separate name yet. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Copyright and free speech are ALWAYS in contention -
copyright denies me the right to write the words of a Harry
Potter novel in the exact same order they are in. Copyright
is restriction on free speech "To promote progress of Science
and useful Arts" - and if they don't get that, I'll remind
them to reread the Constitution.

etc)

... more than 7,000,000 people petitioned Congress to vote no on
SOPA and the Protect IP Act, Oyama said.
I've always suspected
there was some number that was large enough to make Congress sit up and
pay attention to its constituents. Now I know what that number is.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
