Orocale (Ellison) views Java as its "most important acquisition ever"
or something very like that.
While all this is going on, Oracle is out there trying to mug regular companies
for -using- Java outright.
Last I heard, as gossip, but from a credible source, they were trying to get
Boeing to pony up one percent -per- -year- of the -entire- value of several
military and civilian aircraft programs as the fee for -using- Java in those
programs.
It's a huge attempted land-grab and this first-in-field loss is staggering to
that sort of effort if it holds. Even the slightest victory could be spun into
"we sued Google and Prevailed" leverage, even if its just a Pyrrhic
win. It is one of those A-though-X settled with us Mister Y, what choice do
-you- have? kind of things.
A complete loss is what Oracle dissevers, and some will spin this as a win as we
have seen, but if any ground is taken by Oracle at all it will be the first inch
in an attempted mile.
This Java thing needs to be killed with fire, the wells poisoned, and the earth
salted beneath the ash. It's the only way anybody will be safe.
And rest assured Oracle will fight for that one drop of unsalted bloody water.
Just you wait and see.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
