Also Smart Glass, which you can contrast with Apple's AirPlay. There's plenty
of room for Apple to extend the idea of screen sharing to any OS X or iOS
device, and do so before Microsoft were to field vaporware.
So far the points of innovation for the Surface tablet include a case that will
dissolve in salt water and a keyboard/cover with an electrical connection
instead of Blue Tooth, providing a bit of saving on thickness. There's also the
dual digitizers for a stylus as well as your fat fingers as pointers.
Microsoft may have to spend more than the 5 1/2 billion or so XBox cost to buy
into the Windows RT tablet market. You could question whether or not the market
is stable or ripe for phase change after a prolonged period of incremental
innovation by the market leader (Apple). Apple seems better at understanding
pent up customer demand, while Microsoft has historically depended on creating
demand for what they got.
While Apple appears to be trying to become a hydraulic empire, they can likely
change their ways faster than Microsoft who is a hydraulic empire can change
their spots. The company who can innovate faster is the one who can drive the
market. Guess who was late to the party?
