You can manufacture a light bulb yourself, as long as you don't have oxygen in
the bulb.

One way is to put two wires in it - use one to burn and remove the oxygen (which
usually burns out). Once
it is used up, the bulb works just fine.

Second, without a vacuum, you don't detect the electron flow as it is blocked
by
the gas.

The only use was in vacuum tube electronics - and they had the problem that the
heater element would evaporate and deposit on the glass wall... and burn out.

Read over the Edison patents - most of those related to the light bulb are for
thermal regulators to keep the metal from vaporizing.

And carbon has a higher thermal tolerance - 6422 degrees.

Carbon, using covalent bonds, is much more resistant to damage from heat, but is
more fragile in that mechanical vibration will break it in its normal form.
