It is indeed and interesting thought.
One can take it a bit further and ask how long to these data miners propose to
keep this data they hold on us.
some years ago now, I was being 'PV'd'. For those who don't know this is where
the UK 'spooks' try to see if you are a threat to national security before
letting you work on 'classified' projects. It was interesting to find out what
information they held on me. none of it was particularly revealing. It did
include my time as a student and my brief arrest during the Grovesnor Sq demo
(outside the US Embassy in London) but overall, I was given a clean record.
What was startling was the revelation that my Grandmother had been a member of
the IRA during the Easter 1916 Uprising in Dublin. She'd been arrested not far
from the 'Post Office' which for anyone who knows Irish history has some
significance. The funny thing was that she wasn't even born in Ireland. All of
her brothers were (5 of whom were killed at Ypres or the somme) born in Ireland.
She was born less than 2 miles from where I live now in England. She was working
in Service in Dublin at the time and was engaged to be married to a Soldier who
was serving in france at the time. Now how mixed up is that... The funny thing
is that my Mother(her daughter) knew nothing of this.
I'm not saying that these marketing companies should keep our data for this
length of time but we should know how long they propose to keep it for.
Browsing a few pron sites in your early 20's should not dictate the sort of
adverts you get served when you are married and have a family.
Needless to say as a grumpy old man, I hate all forms of advertising. If I am
interested in buying something I'll research it and make up my own mind thank
you very much. I do not like being told what to buy. In true GOM mode, I'd
probably go and buy a competetitors product instead.

Ubuntu & 'apt-get' are not the answer to Life, The Universe & Everything which
is of course, "42" or is it 1.618?
