Most of Teslas inventions worked..
Authored by: tiger99 on Sunday, June 17 2012 @ 05:34 PM EDT
The flyback transformer in a CRT based monitor or TV is not a tesla coil, and its operation is entirely different.

His experiments in radio transmission were entirely misguided, and completely unworkable, which is why his concept is never used.

In picking 60Hz, after the rest of the world (at least the part which had electricity) had mostly standardised on 50Hz, he had not only picked the frequency most dangerous to humans, but had also introduced an incompatability, in true Gates fashion.

The only part of his work which was original, and works, is the induction motor, and even so, some of his patented designs for these were ridiculous.

We had two similarly incompetent, but greatly revered, idiots in the UK. The fisrt was Brunel, whose bridges mostly had to be rebuilt after 10 to 20 years, and who introduced a non-standard railway gauge, with the result that, when the need for standards compliance became very obvious, the whole lot had to be relaid. The second was Baird, who is commonly supposed to have invented television, but in fact only retarded progress by about 20 years, again in true Gates fashion.
