Recently there was as item that said the OEMs could not make Windows RT tablets
that would compete with iPad, the cost of all the parts plus MS's licence would
be more than the price of an iPad, so no profit for anyone but MS.
With MS throwing money at Nokia, including advertising and commissions to sales
staff, why would any OEMs bother to make these without getting the same deal.

"...It is unclear how Microsoft intends to differentiate its work from that
being done by the PC makers,..." Hahahahaha! A great quote!
It is also unclear to MS. What is it with these guys? They can't seem to
compete in any area, except in business computing, which has always been a
lock-in. Is there really such a thing as karma? Watch out Apple! Abandon your
evil ways before it's too late![ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

When this starts to look like a logical idea, it's a good sign that Microsoft
needs to step back and re-evaluate what they want their business to be. It might
be a good idea for them to exit the consumer business entirely and concentrate
on business customers and cloud platforms.
Sooner or later Balmer will be replaced. His replacement will have the option of
either stating that he thought that Balmer was doing a wonderful job, and that
he intended to keep on doing the same things. Or he could instead say that he's
decided to concentrate on Microsoft's strengths in business markets. The latter
looks a lot more plausible than the former.

Looks like the Microsoft tablet is a way to get B&N out
of the Android
game.
B&N has been a major source of income for many developing
Android
apps. This looks like it will kill off a major
income stream.
At the same
time this may be the death of another
Microsoft partner. Customers with a
current Nook Color or
Nook Tablet reader will be upset to find out that that
apps
they purchased on these devices can't run on B&N's next Nook
tablet.
