All those vendor apps the article decries as closing off open source wouldn't
even exist if Adroid wasn't open already.

There's a reason Android is the fastest growing environment out there... hint...
not because its closed.

none of the linux based phone OS's, not palm, tizen, meago or android used a
standard distro x11 etc..

good reason for that is that it wouldn't work well enough without massive
changes to compete with the alternatives.

enough said.
