"versatile" in DVD was terminology that Microsoft pushed
when everyone else was using "video". Certainly the 'V' was
initially intended to stand for "video". Did MS really get
their way, officially?
Anyway, is it really nitpicking to think it strange that the
DVD packaging seems to imply that a DVD isn't itself a
digital recording? It would never occur to me to use
"digital" to specifically refer to a copy accessible via a
cyberlocker service, as opposed to a local copy. Why don't
they just say "DVD plus Ultraviolet", or "DVD plus Cloud" if
they are worried that Ultraviolet doesn't yet have enough
name recognition.
I just hate to see marketing types butcher the meaning of
well-defined terms, but I guess I'm just a crotchety old
nitpicker.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
