Well, what kind of phone would you have if the sooper dooper Lumia hardware ran
Android? Would that also be much better than Symbian? You think?

And that could have been done without pimping the business first.

are they falling over each other scrambling to get a Lumia
900?

I didn't think so.

Of all the things I could respond to, I will address only this for now.
Customers certainly do care about what OS runs their phone, often
above all other considerations. Think about all those loyal Apple fans
that will have nothing but an iPhone. On the other side, there are people
like me who don't want Apple products. Since I also would never want a
Windows phone (like many others), that leaves little choice, and since I
am not a Blackberry type, that leaves Android.

I'm sure if you took a survey you will find OS ranks very highly.

And when the rumors of Microsoft buying Nokia
once the price is low enough come true, if they
do, will you come back and admit you were wrong?

Oh, wait. You'll be a MS man then, I'm afraid.

How about the patent attacks via MOSAID and other
trolls. YOu think that's wonderful too?

Say, from your SEC filings, where exactly has
most of Nokia's money come from this year? Lumia?

People care a lot about what OS their phone is on.
You don't. But I sure do, and so do most people. See
my other comment, above.

Most promising strategy
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, June 14 2012 @ 04:40 PM EDT
You say Nokia's most promising strategy under the circumstances was
tio go with Microsoft, but you provided no rational.

I would suggest there was no solid rational or logic. It was just a bet
made by Elop. He could have bet on Android, a proven OS. He
rationalized that he didn't want to be "just another Android OEM", but
I
hardly think a company like Nokia would have been "just another". I am

certain they would have been guaranteed a descent piece of the pie.

Instead, Elop chose to make a wild bet - double or nothing, bet the farm.
That will go down in history as "Elop's Folly".

when I go to Best Buy, the iPhone and Android phones are
hugely displayed, impossible to miss. The one Windows phone
is buried in the back, around the corner from the other
phones, you have to hunt to find it. That's how "hot"
Windows is on phones - it's about ice-cold. Even Nokia
Symbian phones are more represented.

The Lumia has some good specs (not great anymore), but is
handicapped by an OS no one really wants. And because of MS
restrictions, hard to upgrade. In fact, MS has said WP8
will NOT run on current Winphones.

Nokia is known for great hardware - now imagine the same
hardware running Android or Linux - wait, that's the Nokia
N900 - which is stealth marketed, and almost impossible to
get, but in high demand.

And despite what you claim, either Nokia made a deal to be
the ONLY Windows phone maker, or they're just another
Windows phone maker. Given the choice of paying for the
privilege of customizing the software (and returning said
changes to MS, most likely), or getting that privilege for
free (Android), they should have gone with Android. Combine
Nokia hardware with a great OS.

Instead, they've gone from #1 in the cell phone market to a
has-been, and are dropping fast.
