Describing the problem right is not patentable, either.
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, June 11 2012 @ 11:55 AM EDT
Many innovative things involving a lot of work are not patentable. And they
shouldn't be, because patents are supposed to "promote the progress of...
the useful arts."

Allowing private monopolies on ideas which are not naturally monopolies usually
hurts the progress of the useful arts.

Some simple law changes

Oh, and for bonus points, keep in mind that throughout history, from papyrus to
typewriters to touchscreen keyboards, humans have been creating text by
producing (imprinting, writing, typing, tapping, touching, whatever) one
discrete unit of the alphabet at a time.

I think the Chinese and Arabs would disagree with you there.

solving problems
Authored by: kyndair on Wednesday, June 13 2012 @ 06:45 PM EDT
Probably misquoting but I believe Einstein said “If I had an hour to solve a
problem and my life depended on the answer, I would spend the first 55 minutes
figuring out the proper questions to ask. For if I knew the proper questions, I
could solve the problem in less than 5 minutes."
There have been several variations of this down the ages but all comes down to
the fact that when you have asked the right question the answer is
straightforward if sometimes very laborious, the tricky bit is being clever
enough to ask a truly new question and that has never been patentable but is why
a lot of great ideas seem obvious after the fact
