Notice that the responses have been shredding your arguments.

Really, really shredding them. Look at the responses parallel to the
"disgusting" response; several are basically making fun of your
argument because it's so ridiculous.

One is pointing out that you don't seem to understand what a computer actually
is -- it's a truly amazing invention which eliminates entire areas of formerly
patentable work. Tough luck, the same happened when the Jacquard loom was
invented.

It is disgusting that you won't listen to facts.

I'm listening, really, I am. And I understand (and even
believe) the facts. What we have is a disagreement about
what facts are important. You don't think it is important
that humans spend time and money to develop new uses of
general purpose computers. I do.

There are people who say nothing should be copyrighted
because 1,000,000 monkeys typing at random will eventually
write everything that has been written. This is essentially
the arguments I am hearing about software. Because it is
math, and because there are general purpose computers, then
everything that there is out there to be done is just
waiting to be discovered in time. I understand that fact. I
am persuaded that it is true. I just don't think it is as
important as you do in the patent system.

Someone has to make computers do things, and the real
disagreement here is how we reward those that do. Do we
follow the open source model, where people get together and
come up with solutions, and maybe they get paid and maybe
they don't? Do we rely on companies to pay salaries? Do we
reward new and nonobvious solutions with patents? There is
a lot of disagreement about this.

I can live with that disagreement, but please don't assume
that it is because I am not listening to the facts. That
said, there is one fact that I fundamentally disagree on: I
do not believe it is true that because computers are capable
of anything, then anything someone programs them to do must
be obvious.
