The thing I don't get is: why aren't they making it for the wii?
That looks like the game the wii was *built* for.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Virtual TV is coming. It is just a question of when. I
don't mean the failed
ventures we have had so far - Google
TV and others, but finally someone will
find the right
platform and make the right deal with the content providers,
and these will be as common in our living rooms as flat-
screen HD TVs are now.
Most likely, the cable providers will
win the battle in the end. I certainly
hope not, as that
gives them too much control.
Microsoft was one among
the first with ambitions to
control your living room entertainment experience.
I was so
glad to read in this article...
Underscoring the
difficulty insurgent tech
companies face in securing content, Microsoft in
January
indefinitely postponed plans for its own online TV
subscription
service after deciding that licensing costs
were too high, according to people
familiar with those
discussions.
However, Microsoft is not
going to give up any time soon
in their quest for the Holy Grail of
convergence.
Thankfully, there are many other contenders, from Apple to
Google, who are on the same quest. May the best win (as long
as it isn't
Microsoft. We have had enough of a world
dominated by them.). Maybe one day we
will watch TV with
Google Goggles. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

The Linus Torvlad UEFI newspick reminds me I've been meaning to comment on this
whole UEFI issue. This summer, I'm building two "PC"s with my
daughter. Using the Raspberry Pi boards. But, I'm not building actual PCs. We're
going to build "PiPads", little tablet PCs, but they will be very
versatile. Not like these restrictive proprietary ones out there.
The whole UEFI issue, won't impact me, until the next time I need to build a
server. Or a laptop. But, given the size of the Pi, and the other mini boards
coming out, It's now in the real of possibility to roll my own laptop. But my
point is UEFI, is probably going to be bad for manufacturers. As, frustration
with problems with Windows 8 and UEFI, will turn off people and companies to
PCs. Only further pushing people towards lighter and lighter solutions like
tablets and pads. The smaller manufacturers who wind up not installing UEFI,
will gain market at the expense of those who include it. The bigger companies
will adapt or perish. It's not the niche market of Linux users that will be the
driving force, but the number and seriousness of problems maintaining UEFI. Time
is money, if companies have to begin to spend serious money supporting Windows 8
due to issues with UEFI, it will be a death blow to Windows 8, and UEFI boards.
The gamer and Linux markets are small and unlikely to be much impacted. Still,
the fragmentation of the PC market is not going to help the manufacturers. But
stupid is as stupid does. Much ado about stupidity that will in the end not
affect the uptake of Linux. A bump in the road at best. I'm bothered by this
whole stupid mess, companies do the dumbest things. But RasPi has shown us the
way to the future.
I'd rather have open spec hardware. I can build my own laptops. I can build my
own PCs, and can build my own tablets. I can build them at similar power and
price specs as the major builds. To heck with the stupid manufacturers. The
world has evolved. The Neanderthals who can't evolve as fast will perish.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Re: Patent granted to encourage purchase of digital
textbooks = USPTO defies Supreme Court ruling...
This is a business method patent (on a computer) similar to
what the Courts have said is not allowed. So, if the USPTO
is allowed to run wild on it's own, with no responsible
person in charge of the idiots, then like the SEC and it's
lack of any oversight of current messes (Bernie Madoff as
one example), then the USPTO is by design, an organization
of Chaos. Fire everyone there, and start over from scratch.
NO SOFTWARE PATENTS = MATH
