And all the maths and theory and stuff was basically pretty much complete maybe
20 years before the first digital computers came on the scene. They were
deliberate targeted attempts to implement the theoretical machines that had been
devised decades earlier!

And apart from Moore's law, computer hardware hasn't actually changed very much
since then (ie the last 70 or so years!).

And don't they say that hardware is changing faster than software can keep up?
