While the US military has been a growing user
of Linux, the
contract might also have something to do with
... learning from the mistakes
made by the ... US
Air Force. After a malware attack on the Air Force's
Windows-based drone-control system last year, there has been
a wholesale move
to Linux for security reasons.
Gee - if they just waited a
bit longer, they could of had
Windows 8 with "secure UEFI booting". When the
enemy sees
that Metro UI on the drones in all it's garish colours they
will
run for the hills, not knowing when it's going to
explode or go berserk.
On second thought, Windows 8 would'nt work out that well,
because you
can't side load apps on to it. You can only
install apps through the Windows
app store. Though perhaps
they could make a good income selling their drone
control
apps through the Windows app store, I don't think they would
want the
enemy buying them. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
