If this subject is so important, why are the scientists hiding the
facts behind a paywall?

A large number of people who could make a difference don't. They either can't be
bothered as they are too busy sitting in their homes with AirCon on full
drinking beer and watching the Ball Game or they are about to embark in the US
Driving Season.
This is not forgetting the huge numbers of people on this planet who are in
denial about evolution and natural disasters and their aftermath.
These are the fortunate few.
For the majority of the population of this planet these sorts of reports are
just irellevant to them. They are just trying to stay alive, grow enough food
for their family and keep their heads down when the bad guys come a calling for
their 'tithes'.
To be honest, we have had these warnings before. The 'Cry Wold' syndrome is in
full swing. It is not use these smug scientists sitting in their (simulated)
ivory towers preaching this message. They need to shout it loud and clear to
everyone on the planet. The first thing IMHO (and I expect loads of brickbats
here) is to curb the population growth. The less mouths to feed the less demands
on the planet. This is most certainly not going to go down well in many parts of
the world where 'stature' in a society is judged by the number of offspring that
have been raised. The more we advance medicine, the less we need all these extra
mouths. This is pretty radical for some to accept. IMHO, unless we start
debating this on a global scale we are (in the words of PVT Fraser) Doomed, I
tell Ye, Doomed.
I've tried to do my bit. My wife and I chose not to have children. I grow my own
fruit and Veg and generate leccy that I sell back to the grid.
Fat lot of use that is. Next door have 8 children.
If this is too political then PJ or Mark can delete it with my blessing.

Yes, they will be missed, though not so much by my mom who
despises their constant laughing at their own jokes.
