Does it matter if I write my maths in English of Cantonese?
Does it matter if I write my numbers in Roman or Arabic?
Numbers are numbers and maths is maths. Everything else is representation.
Choice of representation is done for convinience for the problem, not for any
greater reason.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

CPU's are binary, on or off, 0 or 1, in other words base 2
Most
are binary... it's easier to make on/off switches with transistors, but that
doesn't mean it's limited to ONLY on/off switches. There ARE circuits with more
than two levels (on/off) and there are also analog computers. They just aren't
very prevalent compared to digital circuits.

But a stored program computer is much more than a glorified
calculator.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
