The general public's misuse of the forms of the word 'hack' do leave me
wondering how much of this is fostered. Certain parties don't mind the
existence of FOSS, as long as they can pilfer from it while keeping it from
gaining market share. With malicious crackers called hackers in the news, well,
Joe and Josephine Public are going to be less likely to use an OS built proudly

Hacked may have meant something different at some time in the past or have a
special meaning in some places, but words mean what people understand them to
mean.
Swimming upstream with generally just wear you out.
