Once IPv6 is near-universally adopted, it's
likely to prove a boon to police, a fact that some law enforcement
representatives privately acknowledge. That's because each device -- tablets,
phones, refrigerators, lawn-mowing robots, and so on -- will sport its own
unique Internet address.
I guess the author of this article hasn't
been paying attention. While he's correct that every device has it's own unique
address, based on the MAC address, with recent versions of Linux, Windows etc.
there is also a 2nd random number based address that changes frequently. For
example, ifconfig on my computer shows 6 random number based addresses. The
latest is the current one and the others are deprecated. When someone goes out
onto the Interenet, the random number address is used. The MAC based address
would be used by a DNS server, should you wish to make your computer available
to others, such as with a server. So, anyone intercepting IPv6 traffic would
likely get a random number based address that has a lifetime of only several
hours. Of course, once that traffic passes through a router, the MAC address is
discarded, along with the original Ethernet frame, so there's no way of tracking
back, unless the ISP keeps a log of every IP address and where it came from.
That is not a trivial task.

The latest
server market report from IDC shows sales of units running Windows Server grew
only 1.3 percent in the 2012 first quarter, versus 16 percent for Linux servers.
But that may be just because of a few big Linux deals, according to an IDC
analyst. --- The following program contains immature subject matter.

This guy is ignoring reality if he actually believes what he is saying. All he
seem to be repeatedly saying is: Do it my way! I don't care about anything other
than getting more money for myself and my clients.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
