nyarlathotep asks ...

"You really think he believes his dad, a senior partner of
Preston, Gates & Ellis since 1964, is a lower life form?"

Parents can be a special case. Whatever his thoughts of
his father, does not necessarily have any bearing on his
opinion of other lawyers.

I doubt BillG thinks his father is a lower life form, but William Gates III
(BillG) is certainly a lot more successful than his father, William Gates II. He
has no compelling family reason to expect lawyers to be smarter or more
successful than himself. He *should* expect them to be smarter, or at least more
cunning, just to be prepared for an ambush, but he seems very prone to
underestimating his enemies.
