Gates strikes me as a mildly Aspie techie with a wealthy
East Coast background. There's this strange mold that's
used to strike out hypercompetitive and ruthless children
with little reverence for law or morality. (I had a couple
of roommates. Not evil people - and concerned with the
greater good - just - really competitive and no intrinsic
respect for the law.)
Continually diagnosing people with Asperger's is pretty
aggravating overall. Hoewever, Asperger's is a spectrum
disorder (if you make a scoring system, there's a broad
histogram) - and there's a whole ton of people who aren't
clinical, but have Aspie traits. It is reasonable to suspect
that both Gates and Jobs have some Aspie traits. Of course,
that doesn't excuse bad behavior, but I tend to make a few
extra allowances for people with social issues.
OTOH, the darker side of Aspergers is that having
intrinsically low empathy and some verbal issues can
aggravate narcissistic tendencies and make people very
difficult to work with. (There's a reason Jobs was fired
from Apple.) (And why giving presentations to Gates can be
very, very unpleasant.)
However, even doing his best, Gates may well tend to ramble
a lot. I suspect he wasn't being deliberately rude. Not
rambling can be difficult for the moderately Aspie.
I do believe those ruthless little boys tend to grow up and
become rather good at starting companies. And that the
resulting companies tend to maximize profit instead of
respecting contracts. So, it is best to be quite wary of M$
and Oracle.

Or in MS' case it's cheaper* to buy out the company than get a license or honor
a legal contract.
