Ben NanoNote - boots Linux out of the box
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, June 04 2012 @ 10:38 AM EDT
The device sports a 336 MHz processor, 2GB of flash memory, microSD slot, head phone jack, USB device and 850mAh Li-ion battery.

It boots Linux out of the box and also boots over USB. It’s targeted squarely at developers who see the promise of open hardware and want to roll their own end user experience.

Is LinuxInsider anti-Android???
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, June 04 2012 @ 10:50 AM EDT

This LinuxInsider article is still touting Oracle's BILLIONS of damages for the 9 lines, which is really 3 statements + a header.

Oracle's Java Case Takes Another Battering With API Ruling

In particular, this is one of the leading paragraphs:

Further, the nine lines of Java code Google was found to be responsible for having used in Android could cost it well over the US$1 billion in damages Oracle had originally sought.

I thought LinuxInsider would do better than continue to repeat the billions of dollars in damages mantra, especially given the Judge's statements on the matter.

off topic thread

Rep Howard Berman (D-CA) is pushing his record on "Intellectual
Property" as a reason to vote for him.

To me, that's just another reason not to do so.

Transit of Venus
Authored by: ailuromancy on Monday, June 04 2012 @ 03:09 PM EDT

Venus will block out some sunlight on Tuesday and Wednesday. The start of the transit will be visible from the USA on Tuesday at sunset. Japan gets the entire transit. The UK gets the end of it on Wednesday at sunrise (might not be cloudy :-). Sorry South America, you have to wait for the next one in 2117.

According to Cnet.com, two of our favorite bullies are now going to be fighting each other over patents:

Break out the popcorn, this should be fun to watch! :-)

Orvillecopter!
Authored by: Anonymous on Monday, June 04 2012 @ 04:24 PM EDT
Sometimes you read a news story that is just so weird, you have to link it here...

A Dutch artist owned a cat named Orville (after Orville Wright, one of the two brothers credited with building the world's first successful airplane). His poor cat was run over by a car and killed. So he decided to get it stuffed by a taxidermist, and with the help of an RC enthusiast, he then turned it into a remote-controlled flying quadrotor helicopter.

There's pictures, and youtube video, and everything. The determined expression on the cat's face is just awesome.
