So not only do we have to pay a tax on Microsoft OS for new machines, will we
also have to pay for UEFI BIOS we don't need to enforce the Microsoft-only
marketplace?
And for that matter the costs imposed on Linux distributions if they have to be
signed with a Microsoft controlled key??

At least on x64 - so there's no issue there. You don't need a
signed OS loader. ARM hardware is more locked down, but
they're hardly the only ones doing that.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

These are good questions. I can think of many more. There
are no answers,
AFAIK.
The only thing we can do for the moment is pray that
Windows 8
will fail.
I was reading Novel's thing above, where Microsoft was
trying to perpetuate their monopoly by fighting against
"middle ware" taking
hold on their OS. It's exactly the same
thing they are doing today, with
Windows 8. Firefox & Chrome
are potential middleware, and those browser
are not
allowed. Windows 8 will be strickly IE and (gasp) Bing. Who
the heck
wants that? (Can we say "heck" here? If not, I
appologize.) [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Did it ever have practical potential? [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Maybe not such a bad thing. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
