RE: I still don't understand.

HP is going to collapse under the weight of supporting Windows 8. That's a foregone conclusion of adopting the Windows chief as COO in advance of the launch Windows 8, which is doomed to fail. Guaranteeing that collapse is quite the point, both in consumer and enterprise. That is the goal. He will scuttle HP to prove once and for all that none dare trust Microsoft.

It's negative, deliberate and counter-intuitive, but there are more things going on here than it seems. Even Bill Veghte and Steve Ballmer don't have the whole plan. They know their role, and that's enough for them. They're "just following orders."

The goal is to end the PC era and eliminate Bill Gates' responsibility for Microsoft's dominance, since it detracts from his philanthropy. As ever he remains the consummate puppet master. In retirement he has turned his powers to good, that he might be well remembered - but that requires he needs must vanquish the monster he created to grant him the wealth to do his good deeds. Otherwise it would run amok and we would spit on his memory for all time.
