Helping Oracle is the lesser evil
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, June 01 2012 @ 12:12 PM EDT
It would be great if there was a possible decision that didn't help Oracle and
didn't destroy the IT industry. The problem is that there isn't.

Also, you can program your phone in Python, Lua, and several other languages.
Google is ambiguous when talking about putting those languages by default on
Android, but they are a simple add-on.

Oracle should be happy
Authored by: Tufty on Friday, June 01 2012 @ 02:36 PM EDT
What makes me really sick is the amount that has been spent on this case that
could have been spent on promoting and developing both Java and Android. It is
just money lost.

Judge adjusts the sights on Oracle's footgun
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, June 01 2012 @ 03:26 PM EDT
They were trying so hard to shoot their own foot, but he
kindly helped them target it more specifically at their own
legal case, and they pulled the trigger eagerly.

Fragmentation is still not an argument relevant to copyright.
Copyright still doesn't protect concepts and functionality.

Oracle should be happy
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, June 01 2012 @ 07:14 PM EDT
Sun would be happy. Their strategy was to grow Java into a world class language and benefit directly and indirectly by being the Keeper of the Holy Specification.

Oracle just wants the money. Now!

As far as Oracle is concerned, growing Java and nurturing the Java user community is for putzes.

Show me the Benjamins!
