Yeah, this may push me into building a new machine before this garbage becomes
widespread.

ARM chips can be used on a desktop.

The question is how to design and build a motherboard, and related hardware,
using ARM chips, that will meet the performance requirements of a server:
* Graphics rendering farm;
* Cloud servers;

AMD is forging ahead with CoreBoot, which is like FLOSS for BIOS.

The issue is on ARM, where MS is saying outright that on x86/64 the users will
have to jump through hoops to boot another OS, but on ARM those features should
be laser burned right off the chips, ensuring only Windows, and the viruses it
harbors will be able to boot on ARMs with UEFI.

However, I have been experimenting with Linux on the Pi, and other
"embedded" systems to create an open source & open hardware video
game console. It's got more umph than a Wii, for less than half the price!
