On my way in to work this morning, I listened to Keith Green's
"Lies".

Posted under Off Topic, since this has no relation to the Oracle case...

OT: Extradition to US blocked in copyright case
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, May 31 2012 @ 07:07 PM EDT

This is an article about the Megaupload case, but it is pretty well written, and IMO extends far beyond just the question of Megaupload. The big issue here, IMO, is the question of how much the US and it's "businesses with big lobbies are always legally right" agenda can be effectively propagated as if US law was world law. I think that it the case is very much worth watching.

what happened to Oracle's patent?
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, May 31 2012 @ 07:34 PM EDT
I read that of the two patents that actually went to trial,
one was preliminary ruled invalid by USPTO. Was the final
decision made on that?

Michigan J Boies

You know, every time I read the lawyers for Oracle (and SCO come to think of it) I was reminded of this guy

David Boies -- win some, lose some
Authored by: hardmath on Thursday, May 31 2012 @ 11:25 PM EDT

Pretty ironic that David Boies also had the biggest win of his career today, historically speaking, in that a federal appeals court (1st Circut) ruled DOMA is (in part) unconstitutional interference with the states' rights to define marriage and is impermissibly discriminatory by denying same-sex couples federal benefits (taxes, retirement income, etc.).

Off Topic

This AP story, "Google Files Patent Claim Against Microsoft and Nokia", has important details previously unknown to me...

Some of the patents cover parts of open- source software known as the Linux Kernel, a form of freely available computer coding that Google used in building its Android operating system. Google alleges MOSAID is reneging on a commitment that Nokia made in a 2005 regulatory filing when the company pledged not to enforce patents against software relying on the Linux Kernel.

There is one error in the article. While it is true that Mosaid is located in Ottawa, Ontario, Mosaid is no longer a Canadian company. It is now wholly owned by "Sterling Partners", an American company.
