Base Humor

(I spent so much time with octal dumps in the 1960s that I could add and
subtract more quickly in octal than in decimal.)

Well, not the 60's but I know the feeling, along with reading punch tape as fast
as a print out :( Thanks for the base trick I will have to try and remember it
through my cobe mebicine haze.

To carry that to a more common joke others may have seen
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, June 01 2012 @ 10:01 AM EDT

Sometimes people will see a shirt that says:

There are only 10 types of people, those who know binary and those who don't.
Take a step back to the binary list, first 5 numbers:
    1, 10, 11, 100, 101
10 equals 2:
There are only 2 types of people, those who know binary and those who don't.
Tons of geek humor to be found "in the wild" :)

Sorry that I am so late in replying to your attempt to explain bases (?!)
to me. First of all, thanks for for the answer. I appreciate your taking the
time.
I got the point that the two dates were somehow equal. I'm still confused
about bases, but please don't think that it's because of a failing on your part;
I was serious when I said I was math challenged.
