On any computer there are 2-3 areas where you can tell the
motherboard to boot to which device.

First is on boot, you press f11/f12/f8 depending on the
motherboard to get to the "boot device selection" menu,
while BIOS starts up.

The second is afterwards if the BIOS was set up right, that
it will load the linux disc but ask you to press a key to
confirm otherwise it will skip that and go through the
normal boot order.

Nothing to do with windows or any OS at that point in the
process.
