There are still plenty of people developing for Microsoft after all their
shenanigans. There are still plenty of people who will follow Oracle, likely
driven by the executives and the FUD fear of basing one's business on an
unproven alternative with no company to back it up. And, in a large part, they
will be accurate. If Oracle had sued a small, poorly capitalized company, they
would have settled, setting a pattern just like Microsoft is doing for other
Android-based companies. Unfortunately, most FOSS is poorly capitalized, and
needs interested parties with deep pockets to be friends. And, even with well
capitalized companies, even having the facts on your side doesn't always lead to
total victory, such as the test files in Android demonstrated.
Just change the old saying, "Nobody's ever been fired for buying IBM"
to "Nobody's ever been fired for buying Oracle". After all, Oracle has
never been particularly friendly to companies using it's database software, but
companies continue to do so.
It won't be me though, if anyone asks my opinion.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
